🚨 Travel Advice for Indonesia

Major restrictions

for travel
International travel to Indonesia is not permitted and direct commercial flights are currently suspended. This does not apply to apply to relief flights, all-cargo flights, medical evacuation flights and special flights specifically approved by the Indonesia Department of Civil Aviation.
It is necessary to comply with requirements to ensure entry is allowed.

Exceptional travel

Travelers are required to have a valid visa for travel to Indonesia. The government of Indonesia has suspended the issuance of visas, including tourist visas. The government may issue business visas for compelling cases.
Nationals do not need a visa but may only be allowed to travel to Indonesia on approved flights.

Vaccinations and vaccinated travel

Travelers who present a valid international certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine, are required to undergo a shortened quarantine of 7 days at an approved government facility or a designated hotel. RT-PCR tests will be conducted on arrival and on day 6 of the quarantine period.
All costs incurred will be at the traveler's expense.

Quarantine required

Travelers are required to quarantine for 10 days on arrival at an approved government facility. RT-PCR tests will be conducted on arrival and on the third and seventh days. Travelers testing positive will be transferred to a designated hospital.
Further tests may be administered during this period. All costs incurred will be at the traveler's expense.

Test/medical certificate required

Proof of a negative PCR test, taken within the previous 72 hours, must be provided before boarding. This does not apply to nationals.
Arrivals without a valid test result are subject to quarantine for 14 days on arrival at a government facility.

Other medical measures

All passengers are subject to health screening on arrival, such as temperature checks and visual assessment.

Government measures

More restrictive or relaxed guidance may be in effect depending on the region you are visiting. In Yangon, a curfew is in place between the hours of 10 pm and 4 am. We recommend keeping up-to-date with local guidelines throughout your trip.

On return

Vaccinations and vaccinated travel

Travelers who present a valid international certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine, do not require an essential reason to enter and are exempt from quarantine requirements.
Vaccinated travelers must still provide a pre-departure test and may be randomly selected to be tested on arrival. Travelers are also required to have a suitable quarantine plan in place for 14 days as a precaution, even when seeking the fully vaccinated exemption.
Proof of vaccination must be uploaded on the ArriveCAN application. The final dose must have been administered at least 15 days before departure and supporting documentation must be in English, French, or with a certified translation.

Quarantine required

Travelers are required to self-quarantine for 14 days on arrival at their own residence or accommodation.
Travelers testing negative on the day-8 test may leave quarantine 14 days after arrival. Travelers testing positive will undergo further 10-day quarantine from the day the test was taken and follow the instructions of local authorities.

Test/medical certificate required

Proof of a negative test result, taken within the previous 72 hours, must be provided on departure.
Travelers may instead provide documentation of having recovered from COVID-19. This will require proof of a positive test result, taken at least 15 days before departure and not more than 180 days before departure.
Proof of negative molecular test result or recovery must be uploaded to the ArriveCAN application. Testing on arrival

A molecular test will be administered on arrival and travelers will be provided COVID-19 at-home specimen collection kits which must be taken on day 8 of the quarantine period. The kit contains information on how to collect, store and ship the samples.

Restaurants have now been told to close or only offer take away or delivery. Some shopping centres require customers to register their details upon entry. You must wear a face mask in all public places.
As a result of the recent military coup in Indonesia, COVID-19 restrictions and policies may change without notice. Many restrictions and policies that existed before the coup have not been formally rescinded. Following the spike in covid cases from June 2021, a number of areas have been placed under β€˜stay at home’ orders across Yangon as well as other parts of Indonesia. You are advised to follow local media for updates.

Do not travel

We continue to advise do not travel (level 4 of 4) to Indonesia due to ongoing civil unrest and armed conflict. Civil unrest and conflict can escalate quickly. The first anniversary of the coup on 1 February and other dates of significance may see increased tensions. Maintain heightened security awareness. Minimise movement, exercise caution, monitor media closely, and avoid all public gatherings. There are significant military movements in several regions of the country. Violence including explosions and attacks can occur anywhere and at any time, including in Yangon. Targets have included facilities, vehicles and personnel associated with security and administration such as police stations, ward administration, township electricity and road transportation offices, and civilian facilities such as shops and commercial centres. Avoid facilities and vehicles linked to security forces and military administration. Monitor local media closely and move away from anything of concern. Avoid all protests and areas of known and possible unrest. Avoid townships under martial law. A curfew is in place. Protocols are in place for Embassy staff movements in Yangon. There have been widespread detentions, including of foreigners. may be at risk of arbitrary detention. Australians should remain alert to rapid changes to restrictions, including the use of communication devices. If it's safe to do so, leave Indonesia by commercial means on one of the international flights departing Yangon. Contact airlines directly. All bookings for departures from Indonesia must be made at least 10 days in advance of the intended departure and are shared by airlines and travel agents with Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. COVID-19 infection rates remain high across Indonesia. Stay-at-home orders have been imposed across Indonesia, including townships in Yangon. You'll need a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test to transit Malaysia and Singapore. If you're remaining in Indonesia, you should shelter-in-place.
