🚨 Travel Advice for India

Moderate restrictions

for travel
International travel to India is permitted. It is necessary to comply with requirements to ensure entry is allowed.

Exceptional travel

If another country has been visited in the previous 14 days that is classified under India's 'countries at risk' list, travelers will be tested on arrival and must self-quarantine for 7 days. A second test will be administered on the eighth day.

Quarantine required

Travelers are required to self-quarantine for 7 days on arrival at their own residence or accommodation. An RT-PCR test must be taken on the eighth day. Those testing negative must upload their test result to the Air Suvidha portal and self-monitor for 7 days.
Those testing positive must send their samples for genomic testing at INSACOG laboratory network and follow the authorities' instructions.

Test/medical certificate required

Proof of a negative RT-PCR test, taken within the previous 72 hours, must be uploaded before departure and provided on departure and arrival.
Travelers must also submit a declaration of the authenticity of the document.

Testing on arrival

All passengers are subject to random COVID-19 testing upon arrival.

Other medical measures

Health screenings and temperature checks will be conducted at boarding and on arrival. Further health testing may be required for those displaying symptoms of COVID-19.

Additional documents required

A completed self-declaration form must also be submitted within 72 hours before departure. Travelers are required to upload the negative test result during this process. - Self-declaration form

Government measures

Throughout India, restrictions are likely to change at short notice and may vary between states. The assembly of large groups in public spaces is restricted. Public transport

Public transportation services are partially operational with variances to regular schedules. Please verify the accurate timetable with the relevant transportation company. Negative test results and quarantine may be required for inter-regional travel.

Restaurants

Restaurants are open with reduced capacity to allow for social distancing. Further restrictions are in effect for containment zones.

Bars

Bars are open with reduced capacity to allow for social distancing. Further restrictions are in effect for containment zones.

Nightclubs

Nightclubs are closed to limit the rate of transmission.

Shops

Essential shops are open with adapted safety measures in place, such as the use of hand sanitizer and social distancing. Non-essential businesses may be open in some areas.

On return

Vaccinations and vaccinated travel

Travelers who present a valid international certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine, do not require an essential reason to enter and are exempt from quarantine requirements.
Vaccinated travelers must still provide a pre-departure test and will be tested again on arrival. Travelers are also required to have a suitable quarantine plan in place for 14 days as a precaution, even when seeking the fully vaccinated exemption.
Proof of vaccination must be uploaded to the ArriveCAN application. The final dose must have been administered at least 15 days before departure and supporting documentation must be in English, French, or with a certified translation.

Quarantine required

Travelers are required to self-quarantine for 14 days on arrival at their own residence or accommodation.
Travelers testing negative on the day-8 test may leave quarantine 14 days after arrival. Travelers testing positive will undergo further 10-day quarantine from the day the test was taken and follow the instructions of local authorities.

Test/medical certificate required

Proof of a negative molecular test result, taken within the previous 18 hours, must be presented on departure. This test must be taken at the Genestrings Laboratory at the Delhi airport.
Travelers may instead provide documentation of having recovered from COVID-19. This will require proof of a positive test result, taken at least 15 days before departure and not more than 180 days before, on departure.
Travelers flying to India on indirect flights are required proof of a negative molecular test result, taken within the previous 72 hours, on departure to Canada. This test must be taken on the country from which the flight to Canada will depart.
Proof of negative molecular test result or recovery must be uploaded to the ArriveCAN application. Testing on arrival

A molecular test will be administered on arrival and travelers will be provided COVID-19 at-home specimen collection kits which must be taken on day 8 of the quarantine period. The kit contains information on how to collect, store and ship the samples.
