🚨 Travel Advice for Portugal

Moderate restrictions

for travel
International travel to Portugal is permitted. It is necessary to comply with requirements to ensure entry is allowed.

Open with conditions

If another country has been visited in the previous 14 days that is considered to have a virus variant, travelers will be tested on arrival and are required to self-isolate for 14 days. This period can be shortened if another COVID-19 test is taken on day 3 and a negative result is confirmed.
The list of countries and full details can be found at https://www.visitportugal.com/en/content/covid-19-measures-implemented-portugal

Vaccinations and vaccinated travel

Travelers who present a valid international certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19, issued in selected countries, are exempt from testing requirements.
Proof of vaccination must be in the form of an EU Digital Certificate or issued by a third country, under reciprocal conditions. The final dose must have been administered at least 14 days before departure and not more than 9 months (270 days). Thereafter, the vaccine certificate must reflect that a vaccine booster has been administered.
The full list of countries and further information can be found at https://ec.europa.eu/info/live-work-travel-eu/coronavirus-response/safe-covid-19-vaccines-europeans/eu-digital-covid-certificateen

Test/medical certificate required

Non-vaccinated travelers are required to provide proof of a negative RT-PCR test, taken within the previous 72 hours of departure. Alternatively, proof of a negative rapid antigen test can be presented, taken within the previous 24 hours of departure.
Travelers may instead provide documentation of having recovered from COVID-19. This must be provided via an EU Digital Certificate or issued by a third country, under reciprocal conditions. Further information can be found at https://www.visitportugal.com/en/content/covid-19-measures-implemented-portugal

Other medical measures

All passengers are subject to health screening on arrival, such as temperature checks and visual assessment. Further health testing may be required for those displaying symptoms of COVID-19.

Additional documents required

An online 'passenger locator form' must be completed after check-in and before departure. The QR code generated can be presented in paper or digital format. - Passenger locator form

Government measures

Although restrictions are gradually lifting, they may be re-introduced at any time and preventative health measures remain encouraged. An EU Digital Certificate or similar as proof of vaccination, negative test result, or previous recovery will be required to access some facilities and establishments or to attend events. In high-risk settings such as bars, clubs, large events, or health facilities, proof of vaccination and testing is required unless proof of recent recovery or having received a vaccine booster can be presented.

Vaccinations and vaccinated travel

Travelers who present a valid certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19 issued in the departure country, or other selected countries, are exempt from quarantine, pre-departure testing, and post-arrival testing on day 8. The final dose must have been administered at least 14 days before departure.
Vaccinated travelers are still required to book a lateral flow test to be administered on or before day 2 after arrival. Travelers testing positive on the test will be required to self-isolate for 10 days.
Vaccination exemptions will only apply if the full dose and certificate were issued in the United Kingdom, Europe, United States, and other specific countries. A full list of authorized vaccines and issuing countries can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-and-green-list-rules-for-entering-england

Quarantine required

Non-vaccinated travelers are required to self-quarantine for 10 days on arrival at their own residence or accommodation, or the full duration of the trip if staying less than 10 days.
If traveling to England, travelers may apply for the 'Test to Release' scheme to be tested on the fifth day after arrival and be relieved from self-quarantine early, if the result is negative. Those with a positive result will be required to self-isolate for a further 10 days.
Further details can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-test-to-release-for-international-travel

Test/medical certificate required

Proof of a negative PCR or LFD test, taken within the previous 48 hours, must be provided on departure. This certificate must be in English, French, or Spanish.
Further information on tests such as the minimum standards accepted can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england#test-providers-and-type-of-test

Testing on arrival

Non-vaccinated travelers are required to purchase a 'COVID Testing Package' before departure, for 'Day 2 and day 8 tests'. These tests must be administered twice during the self-quarantine, on or before day 2 and on day 8.
Vaccinated travelers who meet the exemption criteria are only required to book a 'Day 2 test'. This may be a lateral flow test and must be administered after arrival, on or before day 2.
Proof of booking is a mandatory requirement for travelers, regardless of the duration of their stay, but the tests only have to be taken if the travelers are still in the United Kingdom on the test dates.
Tests can be booked directly at https://quarantinehotelbookings.ctmportal.co.uk/ or a list of approved third-party test providers can be found at https://www.gov.uk/find-travel-test-provider

πŸ›‘οΈ Travel safety for Portugal

Exercise a high degree of caution

Community transmission of COVID-19, including the Omicron variant is high in Portugal. A number of restrictions are in place to curb the spread. Travellers aged 12 and over must have a negative COVID-19 (PCR) or (TRAg) test before entering Portugal. People aged 12 years and over must also show a valid COVID-19 test or recognised COVID-19 vaccination certificate to enter certain venues. If you hold a recognised COVID-19 recovery certificate, you're exempt from obtaining a COVID-19 test prior to entering Portugal. Australian COVID-19 vaccination certificates aren't officially recognised for entry into venues, many venues accept them in practice. You may need to undertake periodic tests while travelling in Portugal. Monitor rules as they may change at short notice (see 'Travel'). We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Portugal due to the impacts of COVID-19.
